FRISCO, Texas - The Dallas Stars have punched their ticket to the 2024 Western Conference Final, defeating the Colorado Avalanche 2-1 in a thrilling double-overtime Game 7. The Stars' victory marks the franchise's first appearance in the conference final since 2020.
The game was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading chances throughout the contest. Colorado opened the scoring in the first period, but the Stars responded with a goal from Jason Robertson in the second. The game remained tied 1-1 through regulation and the first overtime period.
In the second overtime, the Stars finally broke through when Jamie Benn scored the game-winning goal. Benn's goal sent the American Airlines Center into a frenzy and set off a wild celebration on the ice.
The Stars now advance to the Western Conference Final where they will face the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers defeated the Calgary Flames in seven games to earn their spot in the final.
"We knew this was going to be a tough series, and it was," said Stars coach Pete DeBoer. "But our guys showed a lot of heart and determination. We're excited to move on to the next round."
The Stars will now have a few days to rest before opening the Western Conference Final against the Oilers on Tuesday night.
