Nevada quarterback Chubba Purdy: Brother of former NFL Mr. Irrelevant makes his mark
Chubba Purdy follows in the footsteps of his older brother, Brock
Chubba Purdy, the younger brother of former NFL Mr. Irrelevant Brock Purdy, is making a name for himself as the starting quarterback for the University of Nevada, Reno. The sophomore signal-caller has thrown for 1,426 yards, 11 touchdowns and six interceptions in six games this season.
Purdy is a dual-threat quarterback who can also run the ball effectively.
He has rushed for 199 yards and three touchdowns this season. Purdy's athleticism and playmaking ability have helped Nevada to a 3-3 record this season. The Wolf Pack are 2-1 in conference play and are in contention for a bowl game.
Purdy's success is no surprise to those who have followed his career. He was a highly-touted recruit coming out of high school and was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in Arizona in 2020. Purdy spent two seasons at Nebraska before transferring to Nevada.
Purdy is not the only member of his family to play college football. His father, Shawn, played quarterback at Arizona State from 1983-86. His mother, Carrie, was a volleyball player at Arizona State. Purdy's older brother, Brock, played quarterback at Iowa State from 2018-21 before being drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2022 NFL Draft.
